Instagram Rolls Out In-App Checkout Feature
Instagram has rolled out an in-app checkout feature that allows customers to tap, view and purchase products from a brand’s shopping post without leaving the app. This feature was launched on 19 March 2019 to 23 brands including Adidas, H&M, Michael Kors, Burberry and Nike.
The checkout feature is still in beta phase, available only to US shoppers. An Instagram spokesperson told TechCrunch, “We will introduce a selling fee to help to fund programs and products that help make checkout possible, as well as offset transaction-related expenses.” The spokesperson further added that they are not sharing any specific figure for the selling fee. They are testing the selling fee with business during this closed beta phase and the imposed selling fee will not affect the price of the items sold.
Instagram supports various payment methods namely Visa, Mastercard, PayPal, American Express and Discover and plans to enable the integration of Shopify, BigCommerce, CommerceHub and other tools along with this check-out feature.
Previously, Facebook announced its plan to propel Instagram and Facebook Messenger to be e-commerce platforms where users can purchase products without leaving the app. Are you excited about this new feature? Tell us in the comment section below.
